Wikipedia - II Lyga

Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga – the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga.

Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs.

De II Lyga is de derde voetbaldivisie in Litouwen. De competitie werd in 1991 opgericht als de 2 Lyga. In 2015 werd de competitie uitgebreid naar twee divisies, de II Lyga A en de II Lyga B. De competitie wordt georganiseerd door de Litouwse voetbalbond (LFF).

De II Lyga A telt 14 teams, de II Lyga B telt 12 teams. De teams spelen een volledige competitie, waarbij elk team twee keer tegen elkaar speelt. De kampioen van de II Lyga A promoveert naar de I Lyga. De kampioen van de II Lyga B promoveert naar de II Lyga A. De onderste twee teams van de II Lyga A degraderen naar de II Lyga B. De onderste twee teams van de II Lyga B degraderen naar de III Lyga.

De II Lyga is een belangrijke competitie in het Litouwse voetbalsysteem. Het is een kans voor jonge spelers om zich te ontwikkelen en door te breken in het profvoetbal. De competitie is ook een kans voor kleine clubs om zich te meten met de beste clubs in het land.
